If certain ships and subs are nuclear powered, then how come the crew doesn't get radiation?

Lots of ships and subs are nuclear powered and can carry many people. Super carriers can carry about 4000 people. I imagine that radiation would emit in some degree no matter the containment. And since deployments can be many months, it makes me question the radiation levels.
